Manage contacts

After someone is in your contact list, you can verify who they are, adjust how you reach them, rotate keys, or remove them.

To add someone for the first time, see Add and verify a contact or Talk now.

What you'll need

  • An existing contact.
  • For verification: a second channel you trust (in person, a known phone call, and so on).

Open contact details

  1. Go to Contacts.
  2. Tap the person.
  3. Use the detail screen for verify, transport, keys, and remove actions.

Verify / safety number

A safety number helps you confirm you are talking to the right person and that encryption keys match.

  1. Open the contact.
  2. Find Safety number or Verify.
  3. Compare the number with your contact over a trusted channel.
  4. Mark verified only when the numbers match.

If the number changes later, Glitr warns you — check with your contact before you continue sensitive chats.

Transport preferences

Some contacts can be reached over a live link, a git mailbox, or (on native builds) Tor. Transport preferences control which paths Glitr prefers for that person.

  1. Open the contact.
  2. Open Transport or connection preferences.
  3. Choose the options that match how you usually meet (live, git, onion).
  4. Save if the screen asks you to confirm.

See also Live vs offline and Tor and onion.

Rotate keys

Rotating keys refreshes the encryption material used with a contact. Use this if you were asked to rotate after a verify warning, or if a guide in Dan-EL walks you through it.

  1. Open the contact.
  2. Open the security / keys section.
  3. Tap Rotate keys (wording may say Refresh keys).
  4. Confirm. Both sides may need to be online once so the new keys settle.

Remove a contact

  1. Open the contact.
  2. Tap Remove (or Delete contact).
  3. Confirm. The chat history for that person on this device is removed with the contact.

Removing a contact does not delete their mailbox on a git host. It only removes them from your app.

What you should see

  • Verified contacts show a verified indicator on the detail screen.
  • After remove, the person no longer appears under Contacts or Chats.

If something goes wrong

  • Safety number mismatch: stop and compare again in person — Troubleshooting.
  • Cannot remove: make sure you are not in the middle of an active call; end the call and try again.
  • More help: Troubleshooting.
