Account and backup
Settings → Account, Devices, and Sync cover signing out, backups, and moving between devices.
What you'll need
- Your encryption password.
- For backups: a repository and token you control — see Connect your repository.
Log out
- Open Settings.
- Open Account.
- Tap Log out.
- Confirm.
What happens
- Local-only (no remotes yet): logout clears the session but keeps the on-device workdir so you can sign back in with the same password.
- With remotes attached: logout follows the remote-backed wipe rules for that session. Make sure your mailbox is synced before you leave a shared computer.
To reconnect a mailbox later: Connect your repository.
Back up with a mailbox
- Attach at least one HTTPS git remote on Profile — Git remotes.
- Confirm Sync can push and pull — Settings → Sync.
- Keep your encryption password somewhere safe. A remote without the password is not readable as chat history.
Devices
Settings → Devices lists this device and helps you plan a move.
To open the same mailbox on a phone and a laptop:
- Prefer attaching remotes first so history is not only on one machine.
- Follow Move to another device.
Sync
Settings → Sync controls how Glitr pushes and pulls your mailbox.
- Open Settings → Sync.
- Confirm a remote is attached (Profile → remotes).
- Use sync / refresh actions when a guide asks you to, or after you were offline for a while.
Reset mailbox
Resetting is destructive. Use it only when a troubleshooting guide says so, or when you intentionally want a clean mailbox on this device.
- Read Troubleshooting — reset.
- Make sure you have a remote backup if you care about history.
- Follow the in-app reset confirmation carefully — this cannot be undone from Glitr support.
What you should see
- After logout, Glitr returns to the Connect screen.
- After a successful backup remote attach, Profile shows the remote URL you can share or copy.
If something goes wrong
- Cannot log back in: check the encryption password — Troubleshooting.
- Sync errors: Troubleshooting and Git hosts.
- Moving devices: Another device.
