Terms and privacy

Please read these terms before using Glitr. By opening or installing the app, you agree. If you do not agree, do not use Glitr.

Glitr is research and development. Features, storage layout, and encryption details can change. Do not use it as the only channel for emergencies, legal notices, or data you cannot afford to lose.

1. Who we are​

Glitr is a messenger published at glitr.io as part of positive-intentions. There is no registration with us. We do not operate the git repository you connect.

2. Eligibility​

You must be at least 13, and you must use Glitr only where your local law allows encrypted messaging, peer connections, and the git hosting you choose. You are responsible for that compliance.

3. Intended use​

Glitr is for personal messaging between people who already have a way to share a repository URL. It is not a broadcast platform, a customer-support desk, or a place we moderate after the fact.

You agree not to harass, threaten, or traffic illegal content. We cannot remove a message from a repository we do not host, and we cannot ban a token we never issued. Your git host’s terms still apply.

4. Your repository and credentials​

You provide:

  • A git URL you are allowed to use
  • An access token with the rights you grant it
  • An encryption password

You are responsible for tokens, collaborators, and backups. Logout wipes local clones on that device. It does not wipe the remote. Lost passwords are not recoverable by us.

Using a consumer git host as a mailbox may violate that host’s terms. You accept the risk of throttling or account action. See Using GitHub, GitLab, and Codeberg.

5. Privacy​

  • We do not host your chats. Content lives on the git host you chose and on devices you connect.
  • Encryption hides message bodies from a casual host file browser. It does not hide metadata, traffic, or collaborators. Read What is encrypted vs what a host can see.
  • Web CORS proxies (including any default the app suggests) see git HTTP. Do not treat them as a privacy boundary.
  • Live links use ordinary browser peer-connection machinery. Network operators on that path can see that a connection exists.
  • This website may use standard hosting logs (IP, user agent) to serve pages. Analytics snippets on this site, if enabled, are described in the page source.

We do not sell your message contents. We cannot, because we do not have them.

6. No warranty​

Glitr is provided as-is. We do not warrant uptime of your git host, success of a live handshake on every network, or freedom from defects. Breaking changes may appear as the product develops. Keep your own backups (it is git: clone it).

7. Intellectual property​

The Glitr name, site, and app are provided for you to use as a product. Except for the Signal Protocol library, you should not assume the messenger is open source. You retain rights to content you put in your own repository.

8. Changes​

We may update these terms. Continued use after a change is acceptance. The date that matters is the day you next open the app.
